LEARN TO SEW

LEARN TO SEW

FOUNDATIONS OF SEWING

Join us at Studio49 for a six-week deep dive into the foundations of sewing, by machine and by hand. We have developed a curriculum to stack skills each week so you can make a project of your own by the end of the course. The first hour will be for skills and practice, the second hour is application of those skills by advancing your personal project, with Lillian and Allison guiding and troubleshooting you throughout.

FAQS

What do I need to bring?

Bring a sewing machine in good working order, otherwise all basic materials will be provided while you are in the space, including access to available scrap fabrics and group sewing machines if necessary. As we clarify your goals for personal projects, you will be responsible to source those materials (fabric, notions, etc.) under our guidance.

What if I am going to miss a class?

We encourage everyone to try their best to make it to every class! Due to the in-person nature of this course series, no make-up classes/videos will be provided this time around. However, there will be open studio times throughout the month at Studio49 where you are invited to further your projects. Allison and Lillian will be available as needed.

We are not able to offer pro-rated pricing available as of now. The 6-week classes are intended to compound skills upon each other, and pricing is a one-time payment for the entire series.

What will I learn?

Great question! We will teach you all the basics of machine sewing, from seams to hems and darts to button holes. Additionally, we will support you in pattern-reading and drafting your own creative designs. This course is meant to be full-coverage for a beginner, and should give anyone who takes it the necessary skills to continue sewing across their lives.

About your hosts

Allison Vicenzi

Lillian Eaton

Born and raised in Livingston, Lillian moved back home to the area this past summer after being away for several years. Her passion for the arts has been prominent since she was young, with sewing, sustainability, and fashion at the forefront. She is a self-taught seamstress, tailor, and slow fashion designer. Her business began while living in Missoula in the summer of 2023, and has been growing steadfast ever since.

Currently, she offers alterations and tailoring to her local community, custom and original designs through her website, and sells her own designs in person at Cactus Blossom Collective in Livingston.

Otherwise, you can catch her volunteering or co-hosting artistic events for families at Studio49 downtown.

Together, through Project49

Lillian and Allison connected in August of this past year at Pine Creek Lodge during a concert down in the valley, and quickly became friends and creative counterparts. The two have jumped in full-force, hosting regular “Sewing Socials” at Studio49 and weekly drop-in art nights. Additionally, they paired up to design a collection of looks entitled “Scraps of the Harvest” for a sustainable fashion show held in Bozeman this past November, and co-hosted their first makers market during the Livingston Christmas Stroll, inviting a dozen local artists to showcase their work.

The two will continue to provide spaces for sharing their sewing skills across the community, create opportunities for other makers to build up their brands, and celebrate the art of sewing.
